The SYL Scott Banke Memorial Scholarship Program is a transformative initiative dedicated to empowering young individuals by providing them with the financial support necessary to pursue higher education. Recognizing the critical role education plays in shaping future leaders, the SYL Scholarship provides opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds seeking to further their education.
Empowering Through Education
The SBM Scholarships were initiated in 2007, the year that Scott would have graduated from high school. Scott had a thirst for knowledge, and he would use that thirst to engage with others in conversation, share a laugh or perform a magic trick or two. The zest that Scott had for learning was unstoppable and we share his passion by believing that education is a powerful tool for providing future opportunities and making an impact.
By offering scholarships to students who demonstrate academic excellence, kindness and compassion through character, show leadership potential in real life situations, and a commitment or service to their communities, SYL is investing in the leaders of tomorrow. As of 2025 the See Ya Later Foundation has awarded $364,000 in scholarships to 188 students from Oregon and Washington.
Comprehensive Support
The SBM Scholarship goes beyond mere financial aid. It provides recipients with opportunities to attend networking events, mentoring from local professionals, as well as speaking opportunities designed to enhance their personal and professional development. This approach ensures that students are not only able to attend college but also thrive in their academic and career pursuits, knowing they have a community that supports them.
Building a Brighter Future
By investing in the education of young people, the SBM Scholarship is contributing to a brighter future for all. Educated individuals are more likely to contribute positively to society, drive innovation, and lead initiatives that address global and local challenges within their communities and spheres of influence. The scholarship program is a testament to the belief that investing in youth is investing in a better world.
